U20: Preview against Poland

2018.12.14. 12:44 |

On the final day of the U20 Division 1/B World Championships Hungary will be taking on the host nation Poland.

If Hungary wants to win promotion up to Division 1/A, they need to take care of business against Poland but also need Slovenia to lose to Ukraine in the early game of the day. After the overtime loss to Slovenia, Hungary will be ready and flying out of the gates. Poland still has a chance to pick up the silver so the will not lay down.

Polish hockey as gone through some changes recently as the U20 national team has a Swedish, Canadian and know a Polish coach in recent years, with this they have a style of hockey that has blended the Scandinavian style with the North American style of hockey. The coaching staff did not make any changes to the lineup as they practiced with the same line combinations as they played with against Slovenia. Dávid Kovács will get the start in net.

Poland has been a mixed bag team, you never really know what you will get from them in recent years. This years team is coached by Piotr Sarnik, this is his first year as a head coach of any of the Polish national teams after being an assistant for the U20 national team in the past. Helping him out are Krzysztof Majkowski and Grzegorz Klich. Poland has been using one goalie the same goalie all tournament long as Sebastian Lipinski has played every minute. Dominik Pas is the leading scorer with six points in four games. Damian Tyczynski is another forward to keep an eye on as he is having a prolific season in the Slovak U20.

Márton Vas, head coach: Poland plays their own style of aggressive Polish hockey, which is filled with checking and a lot of skating. We will be concentrating on our own game today, we will want to get the puck out of our own end as fast as possible, get shots on net and to be aggressive in the offensive end.
