Hungary came into the World Championships as the team that was promoted to this group and knew that the last day they would be facing the best team in the tournament. However things went differently for the two teams. As Slovenia stubbled in the middle the best they can finish is second where Hungary still has a chance to the gold depending on what happens during the first game of the day.
Slovenia has been stable in net during the entire tournament aside from the game against Poland when the backup goalie got the start. Mark Vlahivic was the starting goalie both last season and this season as well.
On the blueline they have a number of returning players with the entire unit returning born in 1997 except for one 1999 defender. These guys should be familiar for the Hungarian players as they play in the EBYSL just like most of the Hungarians have during one time or another during their career.
The forward unit has been very solid during the tournament and on paper they have some big time scorers. Jan Drozg is the player that everyone has been talking about, however the draft listed player missed part of the tournament with an illness. Nik Simsic and Luka Maver also play outside of the country and have been finding the back of the net during the World Championships.
Assistant Coach Bence Svasznek: We played against Slovenia in November and beat them, they are a good team but had a couple of flat games at the start of the tournament but I am sure they will be playing better with the silver medal on the line for them.
