After last season head coach Jarmo Tolvanen has decided to keep together his coaching staff from the previous season since he thought that the staff worked well together. The two top assistants for Tolvanen like last season will be Gergely Majoross and Zoltán Szilassy, the goalie coach will be Tamás Farkas and the video coach will be Dávid Kiss.
Gergely Majoross is going on his fourth season as head coach for MAC Budapest and this will be his seventh season on the senior national teams coaching staff, he was first brought in by Rich Chernomaz as the video coach for the 2013 World Championships but was promoted to assistant coach the following season. “All the coaches have been doing what I needed but by the end of the season the coaches had their roles. Gergely focused on the penalty kill during the World Championships and during the games he bench coached the defensemen, this was one of his bigger duties on the staff.” said Tolvanen with regards to what Majoross did on the coaching staff.
Zoltán Szilassy will be starting his fifth season has the head coach for UTE this season. He had worked with the senior national team in the past as he helped out Kevin Primeau and Rich Chernomaz as well in the past however this past season was the first time that he was on the Hungarian World Championships coaching staff. “Zoltán was responsible for the power plays, during the games he was concentrating on the opponents. He was responsible for the scouting reports of the other team as well. Both Szilassy and Majoross would run the drills during as well practice.” Tolvanen also mentioned that he himself was responsible for bench coaching the forwards.
Tamás Farkas is starting his third season as the goalie coach for DVTK Jegesmedvék. This past season was his first season working with the senior national team. “It is pretty clear on what Tamás Farkas was responsible for since he was the goalie coach, he would work with them and prepare them for the upcoming game. Tamás also kept some statistics on the bench as well so we would have that at hand when we needed them.” said coach Tolvanen.
Dávid Kiss will be entering his first season has a head coach in pro hockey as he will be the skipper of the Fehérvár Titánok in the ERSTE Liga. After working together with Jarmo Tolvanen on the U20 national team staff, the head coach decided to bring him onboard as video coach leading up to the World Championships. This season will have a similar script as last year for Kiss. “We worked together when we analyzed the videos as a staff after Dávid Kiss had done the live tagging. He would put together some reports and prepare the information that we would be reviewing during the meetings. We would then go over everything as a staff.” described Tolvanen about the role of the video coach.
