The Hungarian national team will be taking on Canada on Tuesday November 1st, with the Euro Ice Hockey Challenge being played later in the week.
For the first time since last season’s A-Pool World Championships the Hungarian ice hockey fans will be able to cheer for their team on home ice as they take on Canada, in the Tüskecsarnok on November 1st. Hockey Canada had approached the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation about being able to hold their training camp in Budapest as well as playing Hungary in an exhibition game as they prepare for the Deutsche Cup. The Canadian team will be made of players playing the 2016-2017 season in Europe.
We talked Former Fehérvár AV19 Head Coach and current video coach for Canada and Hungarian National team Head Coach Rich Chernomaz talked about upcoming game.
Tyler Dietrich Video Coach, Canada: It's a good opportunity for us to get the team together and build towards the Deutschland Cup. Hungary will be a motivated opponent and provide a great challenge for the newly assembled team. We'll have players from various teams around Europe and getting the group on the same page in a short amount of time is crucial for success, Budapest will be our first chance to really gel the group and get prepared for the Deutschland Cup in Augsburg.
Rich Chernomaz, Heac Coach, Hungary: This Canadian team will be made up of players playing in Europe, I had the opportunity in the past to coach the Canadian team that played in the Deutschland Cup. It is never really enough time when a bunch of players are thrown together for an exhibition game and tournament, you never really have enough time to go over what you want to play. They will probably have a strong team, but it will be different from the team we faced in the World Championships. The result of the tournament is not the most import part, it is important to get young guys a chance to see what they can do but also be respectable and to give us an opportunity to win some games.
The excitement doesn't end after the game against Canada as two days later the European Ice Hockey Challenge will start on November 3rd that will be held in the Tüskecsarnok as well. This four day, six nation tournament is an excellent test for the national teams to see where they are at the early stages of the season. Aside from Denmark, a consistent A-Pool team, newly promoted Italy, Poland, Austria, South Korea and of course the host nation Hungary.
